A Trip to the Metalevel

The trip to the Metabene goes... in every direction? ...links thoughts, concepts, political and art forms. The starting point: the big picture, the big bang, who knows? Nothing vegetates in a vacuum, not even music, there is always a context. Music has a reference, the private is political, music is political.

In four “chapters”, a text performance is the common thread running through the concert, embedded in minimalist improvisations and sound textures. From a “working class” perspective, everyday situations of the main character “Rio” are described in an abstract and poetic way. Topics such as binary/non-binary, social prejudices and financial survival are taken up philosophically.

Groovy, jazzy compositions with unconventional melodies and transcultural elements form a bridge from one chapter to the next. As a kind of climax, a duo improvisation with movement/dance and drumset takes up impressions of the text content and summarizes them in a dance-like manner. Video impressions, which invite the audience cinematically into the concert, lead them from chapter to chapter and to the end of the concert, form a framework for the entire piece and also want to invite the audience on a visual meta-level to an excursion.

Der Ausflug in die Metabene geht... in jede Richtung? ...verknüpft Gedanken, Konzepte, Politisches und Kunstformen. Der Startpunkt: Das Große und Ganze, the Big Bang, who knows? Nichts vegetiert im Vakuum, auch Musik nicht, denn es gibt immer einen Kontext. Musik hat einen Bezug, das Private ist politisch, Musik ist politisch.

In vier „Kapiteln“ zieht sich eine Textperformance als roter Faden durch das Konzert, eingebettet in minimalistisch konzipierte Improvisationen und Klangtexturen. Aus einer „Working Class“- Perspektive werden auf abstrakte und poetische Art und Weise, alltägliche Situationen der Haupt- Person „Rio“ beschrieben. Themen wie Binär/Nonbinär, gesellschaftliche Vorurteile und finanzielles Überleben werden dabei philosophisch aufgegriffen.

Groovige, jazzige Kompositionen mit eigenwilligen Melodien und transkulturellen Elementen bilden jeweils eine Brücke von einem Kapitel zum Nächsten. Als eine Art Höhepunkt, greift eine Duo- Improvisation mit Movement/Tanz und Schlagzeug Eindrücke des Textinhalts auf und fasst diese auf tänzerische Weise zusammen. Video- Impressionen, die die Zuschauenden cinematisch in das Konzert einladen, von Kapitel zu Kapitel und zum Abschluss des Konzerts leiten, bilden einen Rahmen des Gesamtstücks und wollen die Zuschauenden auch auf einer visuellen Metaebene zu einem Ausflug einladen.

lacrush startete 2016 in Berlin mit Loopstation und Keyboard vom Straßenrand als self-taught Musikduo. Ihre Freundschaft ist älter als die Band, und diese Verbindung prägt ihren unverwechselbaren Sound – roh, gefühlsecht und ungeschönt. Ihre Musik erkundet das Verhältnis zwischen Innen und Außen, dem Richtigen im Falschen und dem Großen im Kleinen. 

Musikalisch bewegen sie sich an der Schnittstelle zwischen eingängigem Pop und einem rauen, elektronischen experimentellen Sound. Neben Synthesizern und zweistimmigem Gesang mischt neuerdings die Schlagzeugerin Leonie Sobek den Sound mit analogen Drums auf.

lacrush started in 2016 in Berlin as a self-taught music duo, using a loop station and a keyboard from the street. Their friendship is older than the band itself, and this bond shapes their unmistakable sound – raw, emotional, and unfiltered. Their music explores the relationship between inner and outer worlds, the right in the wrong, and the large in the small. Musically, they navigate the intersection between catchy pop and a rough, experimental electronic sound. In addition to synthesizers and harmonized vocals, drummer Leonie Sobek now adds depth to their sound with analog drums.

Everything is connected, and if one lets go, all falls apart. BEYOND THE END OF YOUR NOSE explores the dynamic relationship between responsibility, order and chaos. When are things truly in balance? Who bears which responsibility and when? Isn’t order just a temporary state? How much chaos can we handle? Can everything and everyone really be brought into equilibrium? And can it last? Three performers meet in changing experimental setups, combing contemporary dance, acrobatics and percussion. In a world made up of separate parts, moving, shifting, fragile constructions and encounters constantly emerge — between absurd humour and poetic moments.

Alles ist miteinander verbunden, und wenn man loslässt, fällt alles auseinander. BEYOND THE END OF YOUR NOSE erkundet die dynamische Beziehung zwischen Verantwortung, Ordnung und Chaos. Wann sind die Dinge wirklich im Gleichgewicht? Wer trägt welche Verantwortung und wann? Ist Ordnung nicht nur ein vorübergehender Zustand? Wie viel Chaos können wir verkraften? Kann wirklich alles und jeder ins Gleichgewicht gebracht werden? Und kann es von Dauer sein? Drei Performerinnen treffen in wechselnden Versuchsanordnungen aufeinander und kombinieren zeitgenössischen Tanz, Akrobatik und Percussion. In einer Welt aus Einzelteilen entstehen immer wieder bewegte, sich verschiebende, fragile Konstruktionen und Begegnungen - zwischen absurder Komik und poetischen Momenten.

The four musicians Pauline Tschirschwitz (vocals, synthesizer, fx), Myrsini Bekakou (violin, loop station, fx), Leonie Sobek (drums, percussion) Paula Wünsch (bass, fx) met in the
jazz department of the HMT Leipzig and founded Shejust_left in autumn 2019.

Their music moved between experimental hip-hop, jazz, neo-soul, ambient and noise. With improvisation being always the connecting mortar, their music takes shape through voice, violin, loopstation, synthesizer, electronics, bass and drums.

Since their formation, they have played in established venues of the Leipzig jazz scene, places like Horns Erben, Kulturhof Gohlis, the MJUZIK Festival, the national young jazz festival TalentZZ at Moritzbastei, Werk2, as well as in more unconventional venues like mjut_ or Westflügel Leipzig.

The highlight of the band’s work, especially since the current circumstances in the area, was a tour of Ukraine in September 2021. Invited by the „kosmos tabir“ cultural association in Kyiv, the band not only played in many concerts and festivals in Kiev and the south of Ukraine but also entered into long-term collaborations with artists from various fields.

Through the support of different institutions,
like Initiative Musik, HELLERAU, Goethe Institut, She just_left have published 3 Videoclips with the latest one coming out in February 2023 together with their debut Album Loupara, which is still available on CD and Vinyl. 

Unfortunately, the band had to announce their break-up in 2024.
